Aims and Objectives of Golf Tourism Scotland

It has always been the intention of Golf Tourism Scotland to be recognised as the association which best represents the diverse golf tourism industry in Scotland and become the body which can play the leading role in the development of overall strategy and in influencing specific public and private partnership activities relating to the development and marketing of golf tourism.

The Executive Board of GTS is focussing on key issues as they arrive and the organisation is increasingly being approached on key strategic issues and projects.  Internally commissioned projects on the development of Regional Golf, the impacts of the Ryder Cup on Ireland, the ten year growth targets set out by The Scottish Executive have all been presented to the powers-that-be. Projects such as the monthly Golf Tourism Barometer provide instant snapshots of the industry’s performance across all sectors and geographic locations.  Working with VisitScotland to raise the profile of golf at the annual Expo travel exhibition and within Homecoming 2009 is only positive for the industry, as have been initiatives with local enterprise companies to set up area versions of GTS to increase communication and participation.
With a growing membership base from across all sectors and locations GTS can build in the years ahead.  However, it does require that the membership actively contribute views, get involved in project groups, local initiatives and engage with each other.  The original objectives below, set out in 2005, remain true; we must just adopt and adapt more quickly.
  • In partnership with other agencies, to develop a clear vision and strategy for Scottish golf tourism, and how this should be implemented.
  • To encourage an appreciation of the importance of the golfing visitor in the policies and practices of members and all involved in golf tourism in Scotland..
  • To consult with the membership and other external organisations to identify policies and practices which will benefit the golf tourism industry in and to Scotland
  • To create formal and informal structures with organisations throughout Scotland, the UK and abroad to allow more effective communication of the needs of golf tourism businesses in Scotland
  • To develop relationships with local, regional, national and international marketing bodies to ensure that the marketing of the Scottish golf tourism product becomes increasingly more co-ordinated and cost-effective.
  • To build relationships with the golf, travel and business media in Scotland and work towards raising the profile of Golf Tourism Scotland as the key communicators for golf tourism related issues in Scotland
  • To liaise with the general tourism and golf industries to raise the awareness of GTS and also the importance of golf tourism generally with the aim of creating a more powerful position for lobbying and planning for the industry
  • To work with industry bodies, public agencies, and those with associated interests in developing and implementing a co-ordinated skills and product development programme aimed at increasing levels of business and customer satisfaction in golf tourism throughout Scotland.
  • To raise the profile of the golf tourism industry and encourage a more positive approach to careers and business development.
  • To examine the need for and develop where appropriate quality standards schemes and codes of conduct to encourage increasing standards of product and customer service throughout the membership and the golf tourism industry in general.
  • To develop, implement, and participate in agreed national benchmarking and monitoring systems as a means of measuring levels, patterns, and trends in Scottish golf tourism.
  • To develop in conjunction with the public and private sector bodies systems to evaluate and measure the effectiveness of marketing and business development programmes and activities.
  • To be the forum for discussion of key issues in Scottish golf tourism and to develop networking opportunities for members as a means of sharing information and ideas, and developing partnership activities.
