2005 Awards
Scottish Golf Tourism Industry Celebrates Its 2005 Success.
The Scottish Golf Tourism industry held its annual awards ceremony last night at the Westin Turnberry Resort on the west coast of Scotland.
The awards ceremony, which was hosted by television presenter Dougie Donnelly and the awards presented by Olympic Sprint Champion Alan Wells, brought together an impressive array of industry representatives from the Scottish Golf Tourism industry culminating in a celebration of all that remains positive about Scottish Golf Tourism.
The first awards dinner was held in 2003 and within two years the event has become the “must be at” event in the golf calendar and has topped off a most progressive year for the award organisers Golf Tourism Scotland.
Golf Tourism Scotland was formally set up in June of this year from the foundations of the Scottish Incoming Golf Tour Operators Association and in less than six months has attracted full membership from 125 private sector businesses allowing it to introduce to the audience its full time Development Director, Ian Cooper.
Chairman Gary Wilkinson, from tour operators Wilkinson Golf and Leisure reviewed the past twelve months with some pride, “The golf industry has risen to the challenge set out by the executive and VisitScotland to take more control of its destiny.
In securing memberships from businesses in all sectors and geographic locations GTS has clearly set out its stall and will in a short period of time be recognised as the voice of golf tourism in Scotland.
We are determined that the momentum built up in the past twelve months will continue with both the new Board and the appointment of the Development Director. The industry has a number of key issues they wish addressed; GTS will ensure that their voice is heard louder and more clearly than ever before.
”The awards themselves are voted on by the golf tourism industry themselves and awarded to hotels, golf courses, transport providers, caddie masters and tour operators.
